Jack as a cleaner at HF
Dare to Ask- From cleaner to banker: The story of Jack Omondi
My name is Jack Omondi. I was born in 1988 in a small village in Siaya County. I was fairly ambitious in life and was determined to excel in my education so as to support my family. Indeed, I ended up joining Maranda High School; one of the top schools in the region and later proceeded to join Maseno University to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science and IT. For a long time though, my pursuit for formal employment was unsuccessful. Despite this, I never lost hope. I drew strength from the advice I received from my late Dad who told me, “My son wherever life takes you, love to serve diligently more than to be served, for you might never know who you are serving.” Then one day I came across a job vacancy for a cleaner. At first, I was hesitant to submit my application but then I remembered the words of my father and went ahead, for I understood that this would be one of the opportunities to serve. Luckily, the company (Professional Clean Care LTD), recruited me and I was seconded to HF Group Head Office.
I purposed to perform in my new role with high levels of positivity and in fact, few weeks into the job, I was loving it. As fate would have it, I was assigned to clean the Group CEO’s office. This to me was a golden opportunity. My desire was to try and meet the person at the helm of the organization. I took a step of faith and wrote a letter to the Group CEO Robert Kibaara, highlighting my credentials and requesting for a job opportunity. The GCEO’s PA Ms Mary Kimemia ensured that the letter got to him. Shortly afterwards, the HR team invited me to interview for a cash officer role. This was a competitive process and I gave it my best shot. To my delight, I emerged the top candidate. As I write, I am already at my work station at the Kisumu Branch. I am so humbled by the GCEO and the HR team for giving me a chance to prove myself; and to God for his divine favour. As I take on my new role, I commit to serve the HF Group diligently. My sight is set on learning fast and growing myself. I will never forget the words of wisdom I received from the GCEO –” Young man, keep asking, keep knocking!”, he emphasized. May God bless the entire HF Group fraternity.
